Summer Term 2008

20 April - Bernadette Brady * Visual Astrology – Origins *
On the day you were born there was a sky story, a personal as well as collective sky narrative. This story weaves its way through your horoscope, informing, adding images to and inserting ancient sky myths into your planetary aspects and configurations. This is not new astrology, just forgotten astrology - astrology at its genesis. Bernadette will show you how to use visual astrology with your horoscope and then how to step into the images that walk with your planets on the day you were born. We will be working with your charts. The CPA is delighted to welcome Bernadette Brady who holds a Masters degree in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology BSU, UK. Her dissertation, the mapping of chaos theory and complexity science to astrology, is the foundation of her book Astrology, a place in chaos (Wessex Astrologer 2006). She has written many books including Brady’s Book of Fixed Stars (Weiser, 1998) suggesting a return to the visual use of stars. She is also the co-author of the visual astrology software package Starlight (Zyntara Publications 2002). Her first work, now heralded as a classic, is Predictive Astrology : The Eagle and the Lark (Weiser, 1992 & 1998) .

27 April     Liz Greene *The Moon’s Nodes: Fate, Destiny, and Daimon *
The Moon’s Nodes are one of the most mysterious points in the horoscope; although they are not planets, they seem to be involved, natally or by transit, in all important changes and transformations in an individual’s life, and they have been considered since Hellenistic times to be associated with fate. This seminar will explore the many approaches to the Nodes through history, as well as focusing on how we can understand them in a psychological as well as a teleological context in the natal chart, by progression and transit, and in the composite chart.

11 May - Clare Martin * Astrology And Incarnation*
This workshop will explore the astrology of incarnation through the angles of the birth chart, the ‘cross of matter’ formed at the moment of our birth. The ASC/DES axis describes the birth experience itself and the relationship patterns which will become lifelong themes. The MC/IC axis challenges us to accept our incarnation and to find our true vocation in the world. Bring your own chart for group exploration of your individual cross of matter.

18 May - Alex Schlieffen * The Power Of Love : Love Patterns *
There is a pattern in each love story. There is the battle between romantic ideals, sexual desire and everyday reality. How do we navigate love according to the patterns of love, as they are inscribed in our charts? How often do we have to repeat certain experiences before we can let go of them? What does the birth charts of our beloved ones including transits and progressions tell us about our own stage of love? Bring your hearts and some charts to this seminar.

1 June - John Green * Taboo - Breaking out the Skeletons in all our Closets *
A taboo is a strong social prohibition against words, objects, actions, discussions, or people that are considered undesirable or offensive by a group, culture, or society. How and why do these come about and what personal taboos do we ourselves hold? Today we will look at generational taboos, national taboos and also explore our individual charts to see what personal shadows, demons and fears we are trying to keep locked up. We will be looking not just at Pluto, Saturn and the 8th house but at how our whole chart contributes to our taboos. As humour and satire are great taboo breakers we will be exploring that too. Bring charts and be aware that we will be discussing adult topics such as sex, death, drugs, obscenity and much more in an open and frank manner.

8 June - Lynn Bell * The Borderlands: With Chiron and Neptune as our Guides *
Psychological growth almost always pushes us up against old notions of the self, and at times we break through without knowing where or who we are. Strange impressions may arise when we find ourselves in unrecognizable terrain, and this is especially true as the lunar nodes interface with both Neptune and Chiron. Chiron can be an exceptional guide at these times, picking up where the old models fail us, and keeping us from getting lost in one of Neptune's more phantasmagoric invitations, while holding us to the extraordinary spiritual potential inherent in the conjunction. We will look at the temporary madness of the borderlands described by Neptune in our chart, and explore the healing initiations offered by natal Chiron, as well as the ongoing conjunction and it's impact by transit. Bring copies of your birthcharts on acetate for work in the class.

15 June Liz Greene  * The Earth Houses: Drawing Down the Divine *
The houses of the horoscope associated with the earth signs are often considered ‘lower’ or somehow spiritually and creatively lacking because they deal with the practical aspects of human life. They are rarely explored in depth, but are given literal and often simplistic interpretations. But these houses are far subtler and deeper than usually acknowledged, and represent those spheres where our greatest creative potential and our most compelling dreams can be given shape and continuity. This seminar will explore the earth houses from a variety of perspectives, including mythic, psychological, and Kabbalistic models.

22 June - Darby Costello *You and Your Time Tribe : My Life in our World *
Uranus, Neptune and Pluto hold their positions in relation to each other for months, even years at a time. They form patterns that become generational signatures, describing the images and thoughts prevailing in society at the time. When we become adults we act out of those birth images and thoughts more than we know. In this seminar we shall explore the assumptions and expectations of different generations / configurations – for example contrasting the people born in the mid 1960s (with Uranus Pluto in Virgo sextile Neptune in Scorpio) group to those born in the early 1970s (with Pluto and Uranus in Libra and Neptune in Sagittarius). We shall also look at the outer planet configurations in the last few years, to see what the present children are absorbing about the world to bring into their own future.

Autumn Term 2008

28 Sept - Darby Costello * Resistance is Futile: the Pluto in Capricorn Transit *

5 Oct - Liz Greene and Juliet Sharman-Burke *The Mythic Tarot*

12 Oct - John Green * Chironic Irrigation - Redefining the Maverick *
It's nearly Chiron's 31st birthday and surely time for an evaluation about what we know about this centaur. Is he the wandering maverick, the 'wounded healer', the philosopher, the rainbow bridge? Have we become stuck on our views on Chiron in this short time of knowing him? Today we're going to flush through what we think we know about Chiron and explore in depth his mythology and what we might have missed previously in our interpretations. We will talk about his role as respectable centaur, his mentoring of heroes, his links to the promethean spirit and explore the stories of his wife and children. What do Chiron placements in the chart tell us and do we place too much importance on him anyway? There is more to Chiron than the wound that never heals and, on his birthday, let's celebrate the whole Chiron story! Bring your charts and experiences.

19 Oct - Liz Greene *Topic to be announced*

26 Oct - Alex Schlieffen * Matrix Reloaded :The Saturn Uranus Opposition *
The upcoming Saturn Uranus opposition is the second phase of the unfolding of a new round about 700 years cycle that began in 1989 - 1990. This years Saturn Neptune Opposition was the beginning. What happened 700 years ago? The 14th century marked the beginning of modern times. What does that mean for us nowadays? And what are we about to expect? What is the impact on our everyday life?

2 Nov - Michael Lutin *Saturn And Ecstasy*
A workshop on why, behind the anxiety inspired by Saturn natally and by transit, that planet is the key to bliss, discovering its esoteric meaning on an everyday level, with visual imagery to guide each person not only to coping, but to thriving. . The CPA is delighted to welcome Michael back to teach for us again. Alongside his teaching and practising, Michael is also the current President and Certified Member of National Council of Geocosmic Research and a Member of the International Society for Communicative Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.

9 Nov- Lynn Bell * Blindspots and Breakthroughs: Understanding the Quincunx *
Planets in quincunx have a very tense, misfit relationship, often experienced as immense frustration or locked up energy; but they can be liberated through an eccentric creativity. Richard Idemon described them as 'more opposite than oppositions,' but also explored the humor and erotic energy contained in the aspect. Each Yod links signs with very different natures- the Aries Virgo relationship has a distinctly different dynamic than the one between Aries and Scorpio, and the same can be said for all twelve combinations- we will explore them in depth in order to understand how to break through the initial limitations described by these aspects, and harness the tremendous transformative power of the Yod. .

16 Nov - Liz Greene *Topic to be announced*

23 Nov - Clare Martin * Riding the Celestial Dragon - the Astrology of the Nodal Axis*
This seminar will be devoted to an exploration of the nodal axis, its collective and personal meaning in our charts, and the questions of fate, destiny and life purpose which are always associated with this important axis. We will consider planetary aspects to this axis, the nodal cycle and transits and pay particular attention to the significant relationships which this axis reveals.

30 Nov - Karen Hamaker -Zondag * Plutonic themes: Pluto and the 8th House*
Few people understand what they do with their own Pluto, it seems as if he has his mythological cap of invisibility on his head when we try to look at ourselves. How is Pluto acting out in your chart, and in which ways you are confronted with it? What can you do with Pluto? I will consider Pluto in the houses and in aspect to planets and house-rulers. What kind of pain does he causes and how does his transformation processes work? And how about questions of shadow and guilt? The 8th house has a special dynamic, and we feel a kind of love and hate at the same time towards its contents. We'll explore why this is the case, and how we can understand its dynamics to cope with our problems in daily life. We'll learn how to delineate planets in the 8th and in aspect to the ruler of the 8th house. Pluto in transit very often brings us things we don't expect; also good ones. But we always have to pay a certain price for it, sometimes more than we thought, often a different price than expected, and Pluto confronts us with contents and situations of a specific kind. I'll show what Pluto tends to bring, and what would be the best attitude to work with what shows up.
