Outline of topics to be covered

You must have a good understanding of the basics of psychological astrology to join this course including: the planets, signs, houses, aspects, transits, progressions and synastry. If you are not sure if you meet those requirements please email us with details of your astrological learning.

Term 1

Dates: Tuesday evenings, 3 September 2013 - 1 October 2013, Time: 18.30 - 21.30 GMT/BST

1: The Persona

The Persona, for Jung, was the social face the individual presented to the world - 'a kind of mask, designed on the one hand to make a definite impression upon others, and on the other to conceal the true nature of the individual'. How does the persona manifest astrologically, how do we develop it, and should we actually have one?

2: Parental Images and Family Dynamics

You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family, as the saying goes. But maybe we do choose our families astrologically. We will look at how we fit into our family group and our relationship with the parents both astrologically and psychologically, and see what lessons our family can hold for us.

3: The Shadow

Why do good people do bad things? Why do so-called ‘normal’ people commit evil deeds? Today we’ll look at how our unconscious continues to manifest in our lives until we become fully aware of it. What is going on in our chart when we avoid, deny, repress, split off, project and rationalise those parts of ourselves we don’t like? How does the Shadow manifest in our chart on both a personal and collective level and what do we do about it?

4: Vocation

What is vocation? Do we all have one? How do we go about finding our sense of meaning in the world or fulfilling ourselves creatively? We will look at how to find a sense of vocation and meaning in the chart and find ways to discover more about ourselves and our clients.

5: Group session on term topics and supervision

This supervision groups will allow further discussion on the topics presented this term and allow time for us to discuss our own charts and those of our clients in confidence.

Term 2

Dates: Tuesday  evenings, 12 November 2013 - 10 December 2013, Time: 18.30 - 21.30 GMT/BST

1: Anima and Animus

In this talk we will be looking at the role of the anima and animus in all our charts and in all its many forms. What are the roles for men and women in our psyche? We will also look at the role men and women play in society and how the archetypes that encapsulate them may need revisiting.

2: Relationship Astrology

What makes us fall in love with someone? Why are the things which most attract us to someone also the things which make the relationship so difficult? How can we navigate our relationships successfully and why do we need them? In this talk we will be exploring how synastry and composite charts can give us a snapshot of the compatibility of two people and show us where the potential pitfalls in a relationship lie.

3: The Psychology of Transits and Progressions

What do transits and progressions mean for us as individuals? We will look at how we can give a sense of what is to come for our clients in a psychological way, instead of through the use of predictions, and how to avoid the potential pitfalls of the fate versus free will argument.

4: The Cycles of Life

There are certain times in everyone’s life that are more astrologically potent than others, coming of age, mid-life etc. Today we will look at the cycles of Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron and examine the roles they play in our unfolding life story.

5: Group session on term topics and supervision

This supervision groups will allow further discussion on the topics presented this term and allow time for us to discuss our own charts and those of our clients in confidence.

Term 3

Dates: Tuesday  evenings, 14 January 2014 - 11 February 2014, Time: 18.30 - 21.30 GMT/BST

1: The Astrology of the Collective

What actually makes us an individual? Science may ask if it is  nature, nurture or environment that makes a person who they are. In astrology we know differently, but how can we relate what’s going on with the individual in relation to collective  astrology? What really makes us who we are and how well do we fit into what’s going on in our generation?

2: World Astrology

Mundane astrology is the application of astrology to world affairs and world event. In this talk we will examine the charts of several countries and see if we can ascertain the psychology behind them. In addition will ask how well we suit the countries that we were born into or live in.

3: The Consulting Astrologer

There comes a point when we stop being an astrologer who looks at the charts of friends and families and start thinking about becoming a professional. This talk will look at how we make that momentous change. We will focus firstly on the practical -  how do we get clients, what considerations must we have in mind, the best way to approach and prepare for a session etc. Then we will look at the dynamics of the astrologer/client relationship and the joys and problems that brings up.

3: Intermediate Chart Interpretation

Following on from the last talk we will see how we can use the natal chart to tell a client about themselves in an accomplished and professional way. We need to be story tellers as much as astrologers, our client is the main character in their story and we need to be able to unravel their myth and let them know who they are in the process of becoming. Today we will explore and practice the ways in which we can describe that story to the client and how we can become better working astrologers.

5: Group session on term topics and supervision

This supervision groups will allow further discussion on the topics presented this term and allow time for us to discuss our own charts and those of our clients in confidence.

Students completing this three term course will be eligible to receive the CPA's Certificate of Completion.
